We had lovely sunny weather and as it was the last drive before the grass was cut again (and to take good care of our ponies) it was decided to clear away the main arena & obstacles and run a cones competition. Everyone drove really well, and after a lot of fun & laughter, these were the photos and results:-

Our Thursday members have completed the cones trial and sit patiently whilst the scores are checked.

Moses @ University College Hospital. 21st December 2017.
Janet is not the only RDA member to have a pony visit her in hospital.

Members will remember that Moses was a Kipling pony about 9 years ago, and is currently enjoying his driving with the Stella Hancock Carriage Driving RDA Group. Lizzie, one of their members became ill, and to help her get better, her sister Chloe arranged for Moses to visit Lizzie on her ward at Christmas, even travelling up 13 floors in a lift. University College Hospital made all the necessary arrangements for a safe visit and the video may be seen courtesy of the BBC on it’s FB page by clicking here:-

Chalvington Fun Competition. 30th October 2017.
(All these photos taken at Chalvington are courtesy of Chris Barber.)
The penultimate driving day of the year was bright and sunny, but with a chill in the air. Val decided that it was time for another Fun Driving Competition for which there would be no winners or losers, but through a newly laid out course of flags on sticks, mugs on poles, convoluted obstacles, tricky cones, and upturned boxes for our leads to step over. As always at Kipling, everyone had a great morning.

The Oaks 40th Annual Show & Funday – 13th Aug 2017
These are the photos taken at The Oaks 40th Annual Show & Funday. This year we were fortunate because our club photographer, Chris, was able to join us and the following are his photos:-

After her superb result coming 1st at Bradbourne for the best turnout, Amanda is raring to go into the Non Assisted. Judy sat beside her, keeps a watchful eye on Dennis.

Josie, in her smart jacket, peers through the bright sunlight as she drives Alan into the Non Assisted Class. Val is thinking about safety, and reminding herself who drives next.

The bowler hatted judge (we love these old fashioned courtesies) kindly puts Amanda at ease whilst he carries out his inspection.

Dennis may look peaceful and calm, but boy, he’s hiding another side full of character.

Alan turns away from his hay – Can he see the carrots we were handing out?

Linda proudly displays her well deserved 2nd place rosette in Assisted class.

The judge presents Susie with her award for turnout and deriving the most pleasure from carriage driving.

Susie proudly displays her rosette for 6th in Assisted, sat next to Judy.

Peter has been given permission to remove Linda’s wheelchair fastenings.

Josie, in the Non Assisted class, looks confident as she drives Alan around the course.

The following photos of our drivers competing, are from John:-

Kipling County arrive bright and early and start to prepare in the morning sun.

We pause to admire some splendid competitors in “Country Turnout & Private Driving”.

Josie drives Alan to her superb 1st place in Non Assisted Class.

Amanda drives a superb looking Dennis to an excellent 3rd place in Non Assisted Class.

Our very own Janet, driving a magnificently turned out Crumble to 4th in Open Class.

Janet goes again, this time to a 3rd in Exercise Vehicle 13hnds and over, Debbie back stepping.

Linda checks to see who’s watching as she drives Alan to 2nd in Assisted Class,

Susie drives Dennis to a great 6th in Assisted Class.

Our last drive of the day, where Janet drives Crumble in the Veteran/Senior competition, with Judy back stepping. We are told the ages of the drivers, ponies and grooms are added up to help decide the winner. Due to their youth, we came a credible 5th.

RDA Bradbourne Fun Day/Le Trec, Sevenoaks. 9th Aug 2017
These are the photos taken at RDA Bradbourne Fun Day/Le Trec held at Sevenoaks in Kent on one of our wettest days of the year. Please see our “Kipling News” page for full details and results.

An overview of a section of the field from higher ground. The BDS Le Trec lead off into the trees from an open gateway near the pony at the left.

Beth holds Alan stationary with Debbie as companion whip, whilst Judy acts as their groom. Here the judge marks our carriage and harness, drivers attire and hi viz wear, spares and first aid kit, and other safety features before driving the 2km BDS Trec.

Back from “Le Trec”, Beth drives Alan (with Debbie as companion whip) through the “Bean Bag” obstacle, where she has to pick up three bean bags and drop them one at a time into a bucket! Our Kipling County supporters are visible on top of the ridge.

Beth drives Alan (with Debbie as companion whip) through “Walking the Plank” with cups of water. Debbie laughs as water bounces from her cup, to be measured a few metres further on!

Beth drives Alan (with Debbie as companion whip) through the Cones. It was the last event before the rain bucketed down!

Amanda drives Smokey (with Janet as companion whip) and emerges from the 2km Le Trec. Sue bravely squelches behind through the pouring rain visible in the photo.

Amanda drives Smokey (with Janet as companion whip) through the Cones. By now, poor Amanda and Janet are both thoroughly soaked.

Josie smiles as she holds Alan stationary (with Val as companion whip) whilst Judy acts as their groom. Here the judge marks our carriage and harness, drivers attire and hi viz wear, spares and first aid kit, and other safety features before driving the 2km BDS Trec.

Josie leans forwards as she drives Alan (with Val as companion whip) through the Flags, moving them from one cone to another.

Josie concentrates as she drives Alan (with Val as companion whip) through the Cones. Their faces and clothes show just how wet they have become!

Suzie raises the flag as she drives Smokey (with Janet as companion whip) through the Flags, moving them from one cone to another. The rain continues to fall and Sue keeps her head down as she continues to support them as groom.

Suzie drives Smokey (with Janet as companion whip) through the Arena. They maintain the Kipling County spirit, showing huge smiles in spite of the weather!

Suzie drives Smokey (with Janet as companion whip) through the Carpet Bridge, although the carpet was removed for safety reasons. Just look at those smiles, in spite of the weather!

Russell drives Smokey brilliantly around the cones (with Janet as companion whip).
